The Lift & Escalator Trailblazer Group is pleased to announce they will be developing two new apprentice standards for the Lift & Escalator Industry:

  • The Lift/Escalator Electro-Mechanic, an apprentice standard covering the installation, maintenance, modification and repair of lifts and escalators.
  • The Stairlift, Platform Lift, Service Lift Electro-Mechanic, an apprentice standard covering the installation, maintenance, modification and repair of Stairlifts, Platform Lifts and Service Lifts.

After development of the Standards and consultation with the wider lift and escalator industry the next stage will be the development of the Assessment Plan to describe how the apprentice assessment will be arranged at the end of the apprentice period.

It is the government’s ambition that all apprenticeship starts are based on such standards by the 2017/2018 academic year.

LEIA is currently assisting the Group which is chaired by David Warr, Managing Director of Titan Elevators Ltd.

If you have an interest in joining the Lift & Escalator Trailblazer Group and being part of the development team for apprentice standards in your industry, please get in touch with Lawrence Dooley, LEIA Safety & Training Manager.
