LEIA adds its voice to a call by Actuate UK*, the body representing the engineering service sector in the UK, for practical measures to achieve reform under the new Building Safety Act.

Responding to the Government’s consultation on the implementation of the Act and the new building control regime, Actuate UK stressed the importance of making this a practical piece of legislation which implements the spirit of the Hackett report. The Act aims to bring about significant culture change in the design and construction of buildings by addressing areas including Product Substitution, Competence and Competence schemes, Duty to collaborate, Golden Thread, Duty Holder ‘Designer’ role, Enforcement and raising awareness.

Commenting on the Golden Thread principles, making up to date and relevant records easily accessible to all contractors, Nick Mellor, Managing Director of LEIA and Actuate UK Board member said “We support the Golden Thread principles. The digital systems for record keeping should be at the discretion of the parties involved in the supply chain so it is essential they are open and interoperable”.
